The religions and philosophies of the world offer many different paths in the search for meaning, purpose, and truth. Jesus, however, did not present Himself as one option among many. He made an extraordinary claim:
"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." (John 14:6 NLT)
God created us for a close and personal relationship with Him. Yet sin—our rebellion, selfishness, and wrongdoing toward God and others—has separated us from Him.
The Bible says, "The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23 NLT). Because God is perfectly holy and just, sin must be dealt with before we can be reconciled to Him. And no matter how hard we try, we can never be good enough to bridge that gap on our own.
That is why Jesus came.
Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life, revealed the love and power of God, healed the sick, taught about the Kingdom of Heaven, and ultimately gave His life on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. Three days later, He rose from the dead, proving His victory over sin and death.
"God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." (Romans 5:8 NLT)
Following Jesus means turning from self-reliance and placing your trust in Him alone as your Saviour and Lord. If you are ready to say yes to Jesus, you may wish to pray this prayer out loud right:
Dear Lord Jesus,
I acknowledge that I am a sinner in need of a Saviour. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins and making a way for me to be forgiven and reconciled to God. Today I place my trust in You. Please forgive me, cleanse me, and make me new. I receive Your love, mercy, and forgiveness by faith. From this day forward, I choose to follow You as my Lord and Saviour. Amen.
